Soldiers clear wreckage of crashed Taiwan plane

Soldiers and recovery teams are continuing to clear the wreckage from a plane crash on a Taiwanese island that killed 48 people.

The twin propeller ATR-72 operated by TransAsia Airways came down on Wednesday on the island of Penghu in the Taiwan Strait, west of the capital Taipei.

The flight took off from Taiwan's southern city of Kaohsiung after Typhoon Matmo struck the area bringing torrential rain and high winds.

The plane crashed on its second attempt to land at the airport. It lost contact with controllers after telling them it was going around again.
