Australian police told off for Lily Allen arrest image

A picture posted by Lily Allen of her being "arrested" has got police officers in Australia in trouble.

The image, showing the singer kneeling on the ground and being handcuffed, was posed as a prank before she shared it on her Instagram account.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) said the officer who put the cuffs on her had "breached" protocol and was facing "internal processes".

Allen has yet to respond and requests for a comment have not been returned.

"At her request, the members involved placed open handcuffs on Ms Allen for a photo opportunity," a spokeswoman for the AFP said.

"It appears the members involved were caught up in the moment and standard protocols were breached."

Allen has now taken the image down from her Instagram account.

She also shared a link to the picture on her Twitter page, which has more than 4.7m followers.

It was thought to have been taken as the musician arrived at Gold Coast Airport on Sunday afternoon.

The 29-year-old went on to headline the Splendour in the Grass festival near Byron Bay, before taking a flight on to Los Angeles.

Earlier this month, Lily Allen said she was "exhausted by the nastiness" after she was named as a replacement for Two Door Cinema Club as the Friday night headliner at this year's Latitude Festival.

The band from County Down were forced to pull out of their first UK headline slot due to illness.

After being criticised online, ahead of her performance, the singer wrote: "I understand that you're disappointed but I don't think that warrants abuse.

"They asked, I accepted, I will give it my all, + hope you enjoy."
