Calvin Harris has done it again - according to Forbes he is still the world's top-earning DJ.

Taking home an estimated $66m (£40m), Harris is reported to have made more in the last year than Jay Z.

"The rise of dance music has been astronomical in the last three years," he said. "I happened to be in the right place at the right time."

Forbes said the fact that Harris has played more than 50 festivals and nightclubs helped him make the cash.

David Guetta comes in second, with earnings reported to be around $30m (£18m).

In the past year he has been touring with Rihanna, rocking his incredibly successful weekly residency night at Pacha in Ibiza and penning a few tunes for the likes of Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.

Coming joint third are Tiesto and Avicii, who are said to have made $28m (£17m) each.

Forbes point the finger at Tiesto's signing to the club Hakkasan in Las Vegas for the large majority of his income.

Avicci meanwhile has had strong sales for his debut album, True.

It includes the track Wake Me Up, which became the first EDM song ever to sell more than four million copies in the US.

In total, the top ten earners on the Forbes list, which included Skrillex, Zedd and Afrojack earned $268m (£161m), which is an 11% increase on last year's earnings.

The list is compiled using figures from live shows, merchandise sales, endorsements, recorded music sales and external business ventures, between 1 June 2013 and 1 June 2014.

Sources include Songkick, Pollstar, RIAA, managers, promoters, lawyers and some of the artists themselves.
