Great British Bake Off co-presenter Sue Perkins will be missing from tonight's episode of the hit BBC show.

But while many of the millions of viewers may be disappointed, it's only a temporary absence.

"Sue wasn't able to join the team in the tent this week, but she's back next week," a spokesperson for the show confirmed.

It's understood that a bereavement stopped the host from being in the tent when episode two was recorded in April.

However, she will appear in the pre-recorded section of the show, where she "discovers the etiquette of dunking biscuits, from Victorian high society right back to Greek survival biscuits".

The seventh series of the baking competition started last week, with an audience of more than 10 million viewers.

That's a million more people compared to the opening episode in 2015.

Judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood have already caused debate on social media over their choice of "star baker" last week.

Star baker went to garden designer Jane but many fans had thought Selasi, who works in finance and came first in the technical challenge, was a sure bet.

Wednesday's episode will see the bakers tackle biscuits, with the final showstopper challenge seeing the contestants make big biscuit structures.
