Wall Street stocks continue to climb

US stocks finished at fresh highs as investors prepared themselves for a busy week of corporate news.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 85 points to 22,957, and the S&P 500 edged up 4 points to 2,557.64.

The tech-focused Nasdaq index added 18 points to 6,624.

Shares in tech giant Apple helped to lift the Nasdaq. Its shares rose 1.8% to $159.88 after KeyBanc upgraded its rating on the stock to "overweight".

Wall Street has reached numerous records over the last month on expectations of solid third-quarter earnings and hopes that President Trump will win backing for a tax cut plan.

Energy shares were higher as oil prices rose on the back of concerns about supplies in Iraq - the second largest oil producer in Opec.

Iraqi government forces have entered central Kirkuk, residents say, after taking key installations outside the disputed city from Kurdish fighters.

Shares in oil major Chevron rose 0.8% and Exxon added 0.5%.

The price of Brent crude rose 1.2% to $57.80 a barrel, while US West Texas Crude climbed 0.8% to $51.90.
